Does anyone know if online copyright cases ever go to court... In other words, are the potential damages one can collect for most cases of online copyright infringement ever greater than the legal fees that going to court entails?

If you win statutory damages, I think you can get more (in judgement) than you lose (in legal fees). But you should expect to spend tens of thousands of dollars "up front".

No, it isn't fun....

I have never heard anyone got severe punishment for copying content from other websites. I think it is apartheid attitude of the people that is to be blamed for this.
